Yes/No/Maybe: Winter Reading Recommendations Edition!

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I usually don't recommend books that I've read for work because: 1. I can't talk about books our company has reviewed until the books come out and, by then, I've frequently forgotten about them, and 2. most of the people reading this blog are not children or teenagers (presumably). But The Knife of Never Letting Go is available for purchase, not easily forgettable, and awesome for teens and adults.

The plot is hard to explain, but there's a summary in the above Amazon link. It's essentially a very intelligent dystopian adventure novel, and it is quite enthralling. Also, it recently won the Guardian prize for young people's fiction. And the cover kicks ass! Maybe you should read it!

Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan. Another book I read for work. This one also meets the above criteria. Margo Lanagan is one of my favorite young adult authors. She seems to write from deep within her own mind, where the strangest, most intriguing thoughts and images float, waiting for the conscious mind to get the hell out of the way. But the weird thing is, her prose is so sharp and precise. Bottom line, I envy Margo Lanagan's brain and want to steal it.

The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall. I picked this book up mainly because of the puddle of blurbs on it. Then I almost put it down because it seemed too much like Memento. Don't make the mistake that I almost made! It's not quite the "genre founding" work that one of the blurbs claimed, but it's a hell of a thriller.

I had a look and there are 28 reviews on Amazon.co.uk for Knife of Never Letting Go. Very good stuff.
